How to Choose Your Engagement Ring Cut

March 17 2022 – Ashley Schenkein

When it comes to engagement rings, there are so many details to think about! First and foremost, you should decide on a cut. Much like you’ll experience as you start wedding dress shopping, I recommend trying on rings to start to get an idea of what you like. Even if you think you know what you want, be sure to stop into a jewelry store so you can feel confident in your decision if you’re sending your future fiancé in to shop on their own.

Round

This cut will never go out of style. It looks good on almost every hand and is a classic for a reason. Consider: If you have longer fingers, a round cut may not look as large and you may need to go up in size so it is proportional to your finger.

Princess

The princess cut is so versatile. On its own it can be a modern cut, and with a halo or some adornment it can look soft and elegant. Consider: similar to the round cut, if you have longer fingers you may need to go up in size so it is proportional to your finger.

Oval

The oval cut is a gorgeous pic for longer or shorter fingers. For longer fingers, it helps to add great proportion. For shorter fingers, it can help elongate your hand. Consider: It's a beautiful option if you like the look of a round cut, but when it's on your hand, it might just be a little off. A halo around an oval can also make your ring appear even larger.

Emerald

The cut for the modern woman! Historically an art-deco era favorite, the emerald cut has made a true comeback. Consider: much like the oval cut, for longer fingers, it can help add great proportion and for shorter fingers, it can help elongate your hand.

Whatever you decide, the most important thing is that YOU love your ring, and it's a joyous reminder of your upcoming union. ASJD would be honored to share in your special day. To reach out for a consultation or to try on rings, call us at 720.663.0663.
